According to a notice published online by the Middle East Project Intelligence and Tenders, the green line which runs from the Etisalat metro station to the Creek metro station, will see 20.6 kilometres of the new track and 11 new stations.

The RTA has issued procurement notices to contractors regarding the same, The National reported.

Titled ‘Project in Dubai for Dubai Metro Green Line Extension Project’ the plan is similar to a Dubai metro extension plan which was designed to unlock parts of the city with few transport links.

The former plan, which was introduced eight years ago, was aimed at extending the Green Line from Al Jadaf, across the Creek to Emaar’s Dubai Harbour development, and then Academic City.

Currently, the Green Line stations in the city’s old areas, which comprise of Bur Dubai and Deira.

The Red Line, which is advertised under the title ‘Project in Dubai for Dubai Metro Red Line Extension Project – Rashidiya to Mirdif City Centre (852706)’ is proposed to be extended by 3.5 kilometres from Al Rashidiya up till Mirdif City Centre, where it ends.

The Red Line connects the old city and airport to Downtown, Dubai Marina, up until Expo 2020.

The new extension, will see at least 12 new stations created if the project goes ahead.
