Frank Spörl has been appointed new Global Field Manager rail / He will be responsible for global strategic and operational management / www.tuv.com


Cologne, April 1, 2026. Effective April 1, 2026, Frank Spörl will be taking over as Global Business Field Manager for Rail Technology at TÜV Rheinland. In this role, he will take charge of the strategic and operational management of global business.



Dr. Matthias Schubert, Executive Vice President of Mobility at TÜV Rheinland, had been serving in the position on an interim basis: “I am delighted that we have brought Frank Spörl on board at TÜV Rheinland—an outstanding expert with extensive experience and knowledge in the global railway sector. In his previous roles, he has demonstrated an exceptional level of success on a wide range of complex railway projects

After more than 25 years at Deutsche Bahn, Frank Spörl is joining the testing and inspection provider TÜV Rheinland. His experience includes national and international projects and leadership positions, giving him a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the global railway industry.In his last position he was responsible for International Engineering at DB Engineering & Consulting GmbH.


TÜV Rheinland Rail Technology 

For more than 30 years, TÜV Rheinland Rail has been supporting the global rail industry, operators, and authorities with comprehensive assessment services. Currently, the approximately 150 experts are involved, for example, in local transport projects in Thessaloniki (Greece), Macau (China), and Copenhagen (Denmark). 



Core services include the assessment and certification of rail vehicles, infrastructure, signaling technology, and complete systems – based on European standards and laws or taking into account locally applicable regulations. 


The aim is to promote safety, efficiency, and sustainability in the rail sector. The experts work on both existing technologies and innovations such as hydrogen and battery drives or hyperloop systems.
