MTM Power - Reliable and high quality electronic power supplies for the railway industry
MTM Power has been a reliable and experienced partner of the railway sector for more than 30 years. The quality of innovative products as well as the flexibility and reliability of the company are the decisive factors. Sound technological and industrial knowhow are combined with the highest quality standards.

Applications
The portfolio from MTM Power offers a wide range of reliable and high quality electronic power supply products for the rail industry - for rolling stock and trackside applications. MTM Power supplies railway projects throughout the world and is the preferred supplier to well-known manufacturers of locomotives, high speed trains, EMU´s and regional trains as well as metro trains and trams. Just as insusceptible to mechanical stress such as shock and vibration as to environmental effects such as condensation, humidity and conductive dusts – the converters developed in accordance with EN 50155, EN 45545-2 and EN 50121-3-2 are suitable for challenging rail operations and prove themselves time and time again throughout the world. They typically supply relevant systems within a train like air conditioning systems, driving control systems e.g. but also auxiliary systems like hygiene cabinets, screen wipers and much more.
Components of MTM Power also ensure infrastructure operations such as controlling barriers, signals, switches and platform access doors. They also ensure reliable communication in the vicinity of railway operations.
New Lightweight DC/DC Converter Series PWRC and PURC
MTM Power’s new lightweight converter series PWRC and PURC follow the trend in rolling stock manufacture to save weight wherever possible. The design of this series focussed on creating an entirely light and compact power supply.
PWRC300

Based on the well-proven push-pull topology, the typical input voltages within rolling stock applications are converted to a constant output voltage of 24 V. With its constant current / constant voltage characteristic, the PWRC300 output power rating of 300 W is ideal to handle loads with difficult switch-on characteristics and as well allows battery charging. The built-in decoupling diode enables the converter to be used in parallel and redundant operation.
Equipped with a primarily referenced control input, the converters of the PWRC300 series allow an energy-saving standby mode, thus leading to a longer lifetime of the battery. The converters are optimised to an efficiency of 92 % following the “plug-and-play” philosophy to use converters of MTM POWER without adding external components. PWRC300 offers cage clamp connectors as nowadays usual in railway applications. Free convection cooling within an operating temperature range of -40° to +70° C is achieved via the converter’s base plate mounted on a surface which ensures proper heat dissipation.
PWRC650

The converter family PWRC of MTM POWER completes its upper power range with the series PWRC650. The continuous power rating is 650 W, allowing a 50 % power-boost to switch on critical loads and selectively switch off secondary circuits. This boost is provided for 5 seconds followed by an automatic reduction to constant nominal power.
As the first converter series of MTM POWER dedicated to rolling stock demands, PWRC650 operates as a hybrid combining digital and analogue techniques. Whereas the digital control allows a high flexibility as regards overload characteristics, parallel operation, adjustment of output voltage and current, among others; the analogue part; however, is mainly used to provide and ensure safety-relevant circuit functions as a protective fallback level.
Designed to operate at 72 or 110 VDC input voltage, PWRC650 offers all advantages of a state-of-the-art railway converter such as power-good-signal via floating contact as well as RC-controlled standby mode to allow saving energy and preserving the battery’s life time. Of course, PWRC650 provides all basic parameters required to comply with all relevant standards such as EN50155, EN50121-3-2 und EN 45545-2.
PURC40

Key feature of the converter series PURC40 is the ultra-wide input range of 14,4 to 154 VDC. Designed to meet EN 50155 and related standards, the smallest member of the PURC/PWRC family will find its applications in subsystem controls of restrooms, door controls, radio systems or systems within the on-board network. Regardless of the individual project it is just one converter covering the different country specific input voltages, leading to simplified logistics and documentation. Especially destined to meet rolling stock designs with critical requirements to weight, PURC40 converters are non-encapsulated but built into a U-bracket case. Using plug connectors released for railway applications, PURC40 converters offer a constant power rating of 40 W and, with the combination of constant current characteristics and hick-up mode, are ideal to switch on critical loads.
PURC40
A 60 W version of the PURC family is currently under development.
Customer-specific modifications
Our team of experienced development engineers, designers and layouters guarantees a high flexibility for rapid realisation of customer requirements. Often, a customisation of a standard product is already sufficient. But also complete customer specific development is one of MTM’s strengths. Our inhouse test laboratory is equipped for tests of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), electrical safety and the specified parameters over the temperature range. We also offer testing of 3rd party products as a service.
