Innovation Leads to More Protection and Safety for Rail Vehicles

FLEXA`s first multi-layer corrugated plastic tubing in corporate history: the ROHRflex PA 12+

Public rail transport for people and for cargo is an operational system which runs 24/7. The basis for this performance is utmost reliability and utmost safety. The new ROHRflex PA 12+ product generation launched by FLEXA allows the manufacturer of cable protection systems, headquartered in Hanau, Germany, significantly to contribute to such high reliability and safety standards – and at the same time to extend their ROHRflex product family.

The ROHRflex corrugated plastic tubings available so far consist of a polyamide layer. The new generation now features an additional inner polyamide layer which comes along with a number of advantages. The design of this multi-layer tubing could be converted into a physical product thanks to an innovative production technology, realized with a newly acquired multi-layer production line.

Excellent properties for hardest endurance

ROHRflex PA 12+ combines the best properties of two polyamide 12 materials and thus features outstanding mechanical properties. The multi-layer tubing perfectly well fits the requirements of the rail vehicle sector and is applied in the exterior areas such as the connection between railway cars, the roof area, underfloor areas, and the couplers. The product stands out due to its first-rate alternating bending properties also at low temperatures. Furthermore, ROHRflex PA 12+ is weatherproof and UV resistant to a great extent. The perfect sliding properties of the interior of the tubing allow easy threading of cables and lines.

Two colours for the inner layer

FLEXA offers the new multi-layer corrugated plastic tubing with two separate colours for the inner layer: red (Hazard Class HL2) and orange (HL3). Both types are certified according to VDE and EN 45545-2 in terms of fire protection properties. The unambiguous colour-based classification prevents mistakes during installation. An additional safety feature is the wear indicator, which allows preventative maintenance especially when the protective tubings are exposed to excessive mechanical stress. And the new ROHRflex PA 12+ tubing has another major advantage: it is compatible with any other FLEXAquick connector and tubing clamp system. The multi-layer corrugated tubing also scores in terms of environmental protection: As only non-mixed raw materials are used for the production of the ROHRflex PA 12+, the product features 100% recyclability.

The Grand Reception for the ROHRflex PA 12+ will take place at the Innotrans in Berlin, Germany, at the end of September 2022. So visiting this international transport fair is particularly worthwhile this year.

Rail vehicles and infrastructure: Safety thanks to well thought-out design

Protective conduits made by FLEXA and designed for rail vehicles and their infrastructure prove themselves not only in terms of reliable mechanical protective standards but also in terms of good fire protection properties. They are fire-retardant, free of halogens, and contain a minimum of pollutants thus meeting the strict requirements of the European and International Railway Standards concerning Reaction to Smoke and Fire. We are permanently collaborating with several institutions located around the world and specialized in fire protection to be always up-to-date. Our products designed for rail vehicles are certified as per the latest European Standard EN45545 Part 2 and Part 3.
